A Sad Day In New Brunswick

It has been a sad couple of days here in New Brunswick and across the whole country I'm sure.

Upon my return from CFB Gagetown yesterday I learned of the death of Private David Greenslade. I first met David at Kent back in 2001. He was a goofy kid working in the seasonal department and would do anything to make you laugh. Putting his clothes on backwards and singing the backwards man song, telling corny jokes, spouting movie quotes... He was a good kid.

I became good friends with David's mom, Laurie a little while later when we both started to scrapbook. She would scrap David's training pictures and tell us how he was doing. I remember how upset she was when she found out he'd be leaving for Afghanistan.

David will be returning to Canada later this week but not how we would have liked it. He will be accompanied by two of his closest friends as they return to bury him. I am personally dreading the funeral but will try and stay strong for the family. David died doing what he loved and what he believed in and will always be remembered by us as a hero who served his country to the best of his ability.

Nadine, I am so sorry that the loss of our brave young men has affected you personally. As the rest of the country mourns, I will be thinking of you and your friend.
